The Bergen sound artist Maia Urstad, a co-founder of the city’s sound-art gallery Lydgalleriet, opens Tidslommer there on October 30. The title is Norwegian for “pockets of time.” The show draws on about four decades of her archive, bringing sound and visual elements from earlier works back together. Radio and broadcasting are, in the gallery’s words, “both material and motif.” Old radios, transmitters and obsolete technologies come back as instruments, archives and narrators, in sound installations, sculpture and spatial compositions.
The show gathers work from across her career in one room. The opening, on Thursday, October 29, from 17:00 to 19:00, is a collaboration with Ekko, Bergen’s annual electronic music festival. The gallery has not yet listed the individual works.
Tidslommer runs until December 12 at Lydgalleriet, Strandgaten 195, Bergen, open Thursday and Friday 10:00–15:00 and weekends 12:00–17:00. The gallery does not list an admission price.
